Here’s the scenario:
You sit down to pray. You’re alone. No noise, no people, distractions are minimal. You desire to speak with God. So you close your eyes, maybe bow your head, and begin.
Yet, the minute you close your eyes it’s like walking into a busy intersection during rush hour. Your thoughts are racing by, there’s all this internal noise, and you can’t seem to hold one thought captive more than a second or two. You face this right? I do. I did yesterday.
You can’t seem to get past it. I call it ‘the prayer barrier’. An invisible wall, even a spiritual wall. It blocks easy communication with God. You desire to hear from Him. Maybe you’re longing to get some things off your chest and really investigate something bothering you. But there’s this barrier.
My experience yesterday was just like this, but my conclusion after about half an hour brought reassurance. After starting my prayer over several times, I eventually just got silent, quiet internally. Letting some noise play out, asking God to help me communicate and remove any distractions. It wasn’t long before I did pass the barrier. I started sharing my heart and feeling God hear me. You can feel the difference. Sometimes He speaks back, if we are willing to listen.
This barrier usually prevents me from praying. I know it’s there but never address it. I just agree with the lie, “well you can’t talk with God and you know it. He’s not gonna listen. It’s been too long. He put up the barrier.”
LIES!!!
God does not shut out a willing heart. Satan on the other hand absolutely wants to block and destroy your communication. What happens in the spiritual realm is where we face this barrier. We must be diligent in praying against this barrier, in Jesus Name. Doing this removed that barrier for me.
Don’t ever doubt that the evil one never wants you talking to God. But God will always prevail for you.
When I get to this point, usually when I haven’t had my quiet time on a regular basis, I find it helpful to make a list and then pray. It helps me focus.
