Freedom From…

“What if you could be free from all that haunts you?”

In his latest book, Walking with God, John Eldridge poses this question. I think it focuses more on freedom from being controlled by those things that haunt us. Fear of this or that. Worrying about what will or did happen. Money. Society. Failure. Reputation. Appearance. Possessions. People.

It doesn’t assume we won’t be tempted by what haunts us, but it assumes we have a choice in our response.

Talking with a few friends recently, we discussed our responses. One guy said that life wouldn’t be life anymore. He’d be dead and in heaven. A couple others swooned over the idea and it’s endless relieving possibilities. They weren’t even sure what that would be like, but it sounded fantastic.

I think of how dramatically my focus on God and life would change. My perspective would be so different. I’d have an endless supply of motivation, confidence and courage to take on life. To go much more boldly as Christ commands into all the nations, unashamedly proclaiming the good news. Not worrying of social pressures, how I’m perceived. It gets in the way of my journey and my faith in Christ. Hinders my personal ministry and so on.

How would this impact you? Have you ever asked God what haunts you? Then, asked how to overcome those things? Consider what you’ve conquered through Christ already. Where you’ve been set free. How it happened and how it impacted you as a person. Bring that to God in questions and then be silent and LISTEN!!!
